Would you use a barrel with a 2MW and 7TE? The rifling is nice and bright, the chamber is in the white.

Personally, If I had a barreled receiver like that, I would build a rifle out of it and sees how it shoots before swapping out the barrel.

Yup, if it shoots well I could care less what the barrel measures

If it doesn't shoot well you could throat it and load longer overall length to ogive. Ive done it and it works.

Is the barrel original to the receiver? If it is WWII, I would definitely not change it.

Shoot it, you may be surprised.

I agree, if it is a WWII era BR and there is any possiblity that barrel is origional, I would build the rifle up and leave it alone, and shoot it. (not too much mind you, but I would enjoy it)

Thanks for all the good advice, I'm going to take that advice and build a rifle and see how it shoots. It's a 5.8M SA with original barrel. I'll report back with the results should be tomorrow depending on the weather.

Given that it is a 5.8 mil. s/n, I might buy an SA 55 from Stoneflint on Gunbroker.

NOS and he is a good guy. (Greece.)

Question is p4, what's the intended use? If it's just for slowfire at the bench,go ahead and build it. If you're wanting to compete in JCG, yank it off and put a barrel with lower numbers on it on the receiver. right now, collectors pay good money for WWII-dated barrels and they don't care about how it fires. As for leaving it on because it's original, c'mon guys! This is a barreled action, not a collector-grade. A TE of 7 is very high! Barrel may have 3K left in it before it hits 10. Put a good barrel on it now and enjoy it for alot of years, not just two or three.

Well she's build and mounted in a fairly good stock ready to test fire. It's raining to hard for today so maybe tomorrow. I'll report back.
