I've got this lever action 30-30, a Marlin Model 336 R.C. (RC for Regular Carbine) that my Dad gave me some years ago. Dad was an antique dealer and from time to time come across firearms. This Marlin belonged to a friend of his who was a lawyer, this fellow bought the rifle new for one deer hunting trip up north with some buddies, then it sat in his closest untouched for many, many years. When Dad found out he was selling the Marlin he bought it for me, Dad had given me an Ithaca Model 49, single shot lever action .22 when I was a kid, which I still have. Dad said he knew how much I liked the Ithaca and thought I'd enjoy the Marlin.
I haven't put more then 50 rounds through it, I just keep it in my gun cabinet, a cabinet that was made by my Grandfather and left to Dad, seems fitting to have my Ithaca and Marlin in Grandpa Wilson's gun cabinet.
I've been doing some research on the rifle and found according to the serial number it was made in 1960, Ser# T-13803 which is neat because my zip code is also 13803. Seems karma just want's me to own this rifle. Anyways, what I'm stumped on is my rifle has a straight grip stock and a gold plated trigger. From everything I can find these had a curved pistol grip stock and the RC model didn't have the gold trigger. Now I'm sure someone could have swapped out the trigger, but knowing the history I highly doubt the lawyer had that done just to take on one hunting trip. The straight grip stock has me more stumped then the trigger, do I have a rare model here?
Any info or leads would be greatly appreciated.
