    Some of you guys know me from other forums. I mainly hang out on Surplusrifle forum and Rimfire Central. Orlando referred me to Tim for a barrel swap and I landed here. I currently only have two Garands. One is a NM prepared rifle built on a Winchester receiver using a Krieger barrel, this one gives my Compass Lake AR 15 NM a close run in Service rifle matches and is currently one point off my club's record . I'm going to have Tim rebarrel my Danish return Garand. The Dane is build on a Springfield 1944 receiver and has a 1960 VAR barrel. It was a "Naked" Dane from CMP. I used Boyd's wood,stocked it up proper(clearances ,all that normal stuff) and removed the front hand guard spacer and screwed and glued the hand guard. The bore on the VAR barrel slugs out to .310 " /.3015. Over the last six years I have gone back and forth over re barreling it. Some days it shoots well especially with a little build up from moly coated bullets. This particular Garand has always been my bug out gun/hurricane/ Oh crap break the glass gun. I have a lot of cool toys but for me a Garand and a bunch of loaded en blocks is the only way to go in a "tight".I detail stripped it yesterday. This was the first time I stripped one that had been screwed and glued. I used Loktite bearing fit on the lower band and on the GC fit also put a few spots of shoe gue around the barrel upper guard fit. Well judiciously applied heat was necessary to remove the GC and HG,fortunately the wood survived. Good thing I am a Machinist by trade. OK I'm done rambling. Just wanted to say HOWDY to Y'all.

    Judging from his handle, he is a Doug Kershaw impersonator.

    Howdy . My handle loosely comes from the song "Louisiana Saturday night" as sung by Mel McDaniel in 1981.
    "Waiting in the front yard, sitting on a log;
    Single shot rifle and a one-eyed dog.
    Yonder come my kin folk in the moonlight:
    Louisiana Saturday night."
    Also I have a thing for single shot target rifles.

    When dealing with liberals, always attribute to malice what would ordinarily be attributed to incompetence.
