I recently acquired a polishing or finishing set of stones from Brownell's. The set has an India stone and two Arkansas stones. I disassembled my recent 1911 build which produced a consistent 3.5 trigger pull. I stoned all the parts connected with the ignition system. Even though I used a Wilson Combat frame/slide for this build and mostly WC bullet proof parts I used a Nowlin Speed Demon ignition system. The Nowlin system came from Brownell's and the pieces are pre-fit at Nowlin's. After I stoned or finished the parts I measured the trigger pull several more times and each time got a reading of 3.25 for a quarter pound loss of pull. I realize that isn't much but I thought it interesting that just a little finish work would make that kind of difference. Now I'm wondering how finishing or smoothing some of the parts on an M1 Garand might effect its overall operation.
