Heard about an unusual aperture for Garand

Someone, who seems to be in the know, told me about an unusual aperture for the Garand's rear sight. Supposedly, it is a replacement aperture with a horizontal slit in it about the height of the NM aperture, but by being wide, is supposed to let in the same amount of light as the normal (circle, standard) aperture. He said it is supposed to sharpen vision in the vertical plane with the far left and right sides of the sight picture somewhat blurred.

I've never before heard of such a thing, and haven't found any mention on the internet of it. Has anyone here heard of it?

Art is good people!! A very, very nice guy.
He made me a lens for my Randolph Rangers recently to move my relaxed focus to my front sight on my match AR. I am going to have him do one for me now for M1A/M1.
