It looks like it's not "un catching" from the op rod catch. I can ever so slightly pull the op rod/bolt back and it releases. When I push down on the follower, everything "looks" like it's trying to work.
The follower goes down, the op rod catch goes down. The op rod just won't release from the catch when op rod/bolt is not pulled back, only slightly, first.

Also, there seems to be more forward pressure on the op rod on this rifle than my SA rifle. Like the op rod spring is stronger.

Mine did the same thing I replace the bullet guide and the follower arm with parts i got from Bill Rica at a local show. This fixed the problem.

Your problem is very common. Most M1's do not time. Seems the bullet guides were made with minimum fulcrums, & with a little wear, they stop working. If you take the bullet guide out, heat it red hot & bang it with a hammer to increase the height of the fulcrum, & then quench it in water, It will most likely work.

Thanks Tony. That's what seems to be the problem. I've checked for burrs and binding, and haven't found any.
    Thanks again!

Danny standardpartsllc.com sells a new production timing guage cheap, well cheaper than a real one anyway.

It's a fairly common thing on older M1's. The advice listed here already should fix you up.
