    AR build

This is my first post to the new forum. Looks great. I hadn't been to active on the old one.

    Here's pics of turning this:

    into this:

It was fun to build. For those contemplating it, if you can detail strip a Garand, you can build one of these no problem.

I don't think we've met, so welcome to the forum and nuthouse. If you stay here long you'll need a thick skin as everyone gets a turn in the barrel including Tim and he owns the website. Great build. I have a receiver which I've been wanting to build but haven't had the time. Perhaps you would be will willing to share your parts list. I could pick up everything I need at the National Gun Day Show in Louisville, Ky June 11 &12, 2011.

I'd be happy to. My goal here was to go for affordability with the upper assembly. I'm not going to be pumping a lot of rounds through it in a short time like a competitor, so this should last me a long time.

    Magpul stuff:
MOE carbine stock complete kit with tube and buffer and spring
    MOE carbine handguard
    MOE pistol grip
    AFG2 forward hand grip
    ASAP sling mount rear
    RSA sling mount forward
MOE polymer rail sections 11 slot bottom and 5 slot on each side of handguard
    MOE polymer trigger guard
    BAD battery assist lever

    generic extended takedown pin

    Upper Assembly from JSE
with Rock River Arms Bolt and carrier
    It's their proprietary barrel. 16 inch barrel w/ 1 in 7 twist
YHM Phantom 5M2 Smooth muzzle break
    Badger Gen 2 Tac Latch
    top rail gas block

Rapid Transition Sights from Dueck Defense. Note: to mount front sight on gas block you must use a YHM gas block riser (YHM-230) or equal

    Giselle SSA trigger

American defense scope mount # AD-RECON

Burris Fullfield TAC30 Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 1-4x 24mm Illuminated Ballistic CQ Reticle

I used the remaining parts stock from the original rifle
    Mag release
    safety with spring and detent
    takedown detent and spring

I had to buy a oversize hinge pin up front, but if you have a modern lower you will use a standard pin

I think that's it. I didn't build from a stripped receiver so I may have missed a little part.

    Good Luck,
    Larry

What a make over! Looks good to me. I use a plain jane A-2 and just love it. Didn't want to get carried away with accesories and increase the weight.

    Thanks, llurpirate
I know what you mean. My scope and mount adds a bit of weight. Without that it's a featherweight
