Me too! When the CMP was selling SG 1917 rifles I seem to remember the price was around 500 bucks and the rifles were real nice. I would imagine that you could dump several hundred bucks into these rifles and still have a wall hanger. Even the chrome is chipped and scratched. I have no idea how much it would cost to strip off the chrome and re work the finish.

These rifles should be retired to make lamps or something useful.

I totally disagree, I would never try to restore these pieces of history. I would buy them do just enough work to make them safe to shoot, these would not ever be more then shooters. Most likely leave the white stock alone if solid. And just enjoy the looks I would get at the range. Nothing more fun to own then an ugly rifle!!!!

I hear ya.....I really love those "Battle Tested - Tough" rifles with all the scars and history. It would be pretty hard for me to buy them also, but, I love those old rifles.

    Ax,
Well the rifles are still in the racks from what I understand.

There were nice white parade rifles for sale when the 1917's were offered. Rough cannot even start to describe there rifles. There is a difference between old rifles and junk. The white rifle the bolt was hard to close and operate and the bore looked shot out. Good shooters????

When and if you pull the plug and purchase please please post pictures. I love to see rifles brought back to life.

Now these are nice rifles. I would not mind taking these to any range.
