    Mag fed options

I know that the BM 59 mags are rare and more expensive than the M14's. But since I've never handled one, can anyone tell me, how different are the dimensions? Can a M1 that was converted to BM 59 mag fed, be modified to take M14 mags instead? I figure one mag must be bigger than the other so it ought to be possible to convert one of them to the other but not either one to the other.

People have converted BM59s to take M14 magazines, but I have no idea what it takes.

That makes it sound like you ought to be able to take a Garand that was originally converted to BM 59 mag fed. and mod it to take the M14 mags. Thanks for the info.

The 59 does not use a "resting ledge" in the receiver but the M14 does. The 59 has lips on the mag that go against the receiver bottom preventing it from going higher in the receiver, the 14 does not. Once the "resting ledge" in the receiver is milled out, you could still use 14 mags, with work, but you may experience some function issues.
