Maintaining a Parkerized finish on Military Rifles

Good Evening Gentlemen, I recently read a post by another Member of BT that recommends oiling or greasing a parkerized finish on military rifles.

How many here Oil or Grease their Parkerized rifles ??

I have never heard of this procedure and I need to know if this is "Standard operating procedure " with parkerized finishes.

    Thank you,

    Smc51

Its no different than oiling a blued rifles surface.
I do rub grease into a freshly parkerized part as it is usually very dry and dull looking . Old parkerizing I spray with Rem Oil, no preference on brand I just use it becuase its easy and available.
The reason Parkerizing is used on Military rifles that are used in harsh conditions is its durable and it's rough ,porus surface holds oil and grease giving it better protection from rusting over blued finish

CLP. Rub a coat on everytime you clean the weapon.

I've never really done much with my built rifles - hell, most of them stayed packed in cosmoline - but I do soak my freshly parked parts in oil.

I'm with LP. CLP. I also use GI rifle grease.

    Punch,
You use GI Grease? I thought you would have used Orest's Man Butter?
Any good gun oil should work. I am partial to Ballistol also works well on Black powder weapons.

Thank you Gentlemen, this is an epiphany to me, as I have never Oiled or Greased a Military Parkerized rifle. I had no Idea that this is a part of the cleaning process.

I guess an Old Dog can indeed learn new tricks........LOL.

Thank you all for your input!

Mack, it's amazing how the bottom fell out of the orest's manbutter market. I can't even give the stuff away.

The CMP Faithful are fickle. Since he can no longer influence them getting a pristine rifle he is no longer getting the rimming they gave when he was in charge and you are therefore stuck with all the Man Butter you worked hard to acquire with no buyers now. I guess you could always find a way to make it into facial cream for the ladies.
