    Why was the finish changed from manganese to zinc?

    Not by any degree worth mentioning. I guess, if you're about to land on Omaha beech, manganese is preferred.

    I gave up years ago trying to figure out what type finish was on WWII Rifles as the color seems to run form light to dark
    The color of this rifle is a medium light gray so is it zinc or a very worn manganese I really dont know?

    The mid-3 million guns had dark park, it changed for the later 1945 rifles to zinc.

    From the pictures it looks zinc, pictures don't mean much though. I've learned long ago that you just can't trust photo's unless the person who took the photo says that the photo looks exactly like what's in that photo. Well, does it look exactly the same?
