They are just various inspectors marks. The square, circle and box are Remington marks. I don't know if there are any records on who or what they mean.Originally Posted by paid4c4

Welcome to the bolt gun fraternity! When I first started competitive rifle shooting I had an accurized 03A3 done by a former marine gunsmith. When I turned it in for an M1 I thought I was using reduced loads! There is a differance in the recoil impulse of the two and at first I was all over the target till I got used to the M1. Wouldn't part with my M1 but I do have a 03A3 in the background ready for use and trying to build another.
