    BM-1 Question

I am almost finished the BM-1 Build. This Garand/BM-59 hybrid is looking good but..... problems with the oprod spring and Garand follower rod. I have trimmed back the spring quite a bit but with the Garand follower rod it bottoms out in the op rod and the bolt does not get to the end of its ejection stroke. Is this a 'trial and error' fit? How short should the spring be to operate properly? Can I make a custom follower rod by moving the spring forward on the rod? Would fusing a stub from the Garand rod to the BM-59 rod work better? The two piece BM guide may be an option with some clever trimming and such. WWTD? (what would Tim do?)

Any and all ideas and suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

How about a picture of your build? Not that I doubt what you have but no sense miscommunicating before we even start.

If I use the Garand follower rod I would have to use a spring with 5" compressed length. Not sure if that will work although it cant be much different than a 'tanker' modified rifle.

Tim makes a custom follower rod on his shortened rifles.

My spring order arrived from Wolff today. As Tim mentioned, it is a "plug and play". Thanks Tim! Now to get this creation test fired.

p.s. A shout out to Wolff Springs. They handled my Canadian order quick and efficiently. Not many US parts suppliers want to deal with our smaller market.

Just dont use them on full sized Garands as they can cause short stroking with some ammo

I'm sure you meant Wolff Garand springs. The spring the OP is talking about is a Wolff high power tanker spring. It is the only spring I'd use on a "tanker" or a rifle close in length to it using the Garand follower parts.
