All that being said......maybe I will try to find a replacement C stock...but I really don;t want to put another $150+ into this.

Get an aftermarket C stock. Don't destroy a USGI stock for this project.
I put a S & K Instamount on a 1903A3 and it works fine. I used an aftermarket stock too.
