    BM59 Modified bolt in a M1 Garand

This is probably a stupid newbie question but will a USGI bolt modified for the BM59 still work in an M1 Garand?

I am not exactly sure what the modifications were besides clearance cuts for the magazine but it looks like it should still function?

    Thanks!

Yes, I've done it. My inclination is that I would never do it again. Giant pain in the rump.

A BM59 bolt seems to work fine in a Garand, but not vice-versa.
When dealing with liberals, always attribute to malice what would ordinarily be attributed to incompetence.

How so? Inquiring minds want to know.

That is what I would assume also but just wanted to confirm it.

Tim, what challenges did you have? Headspace problems?

I think that in modifying the M1 Garand bolts with magazine cuts, the extractor is reduced a little, as well. I would think that if you wanted to use a BM59 modified bolt
in a standard M1, you would want to install the M1 extractor for reliability. Just my thinking.

I misread the question. Running a 59 bolt in a Garand is absolutely no problem. I don't even have any extractor issues.

I had somehow read the question backwards. I was thinking the OP wanted to run a Garand bolt in a 59 which can be done if you modify it.

Perfect, that is exactly what I needed to know. Sorry for the confusion.
