    newby question - Garand, BM59, M1A

So, the Garand became (begat?) the BM59 which became the M14/M1A?
So if I have a Garand and an M1A, no real need for a BM59 (except for "just because") right?
And since the early AR10 I have uses the M1A mags, I'm set, right?

You always need another gun. Just the way things are.
When dealing with liberals, always attribute to malice what would ordinarily be attributed to incompetence.

It would be more accurate to say the BM59 and M-14 are both derived from the Garand. They are different countries solutions to the same problem, and while they have similarities they also have differences. In some areas the BM59 can be considered superior, it has a improved gas system and some of the most reliable magazines ever made. The BM59 is far less common in the US, and its a great addition to any collection, in my opinion. So do you "need" one, no. Should you have one....yes!

So, you're saying I should get rid of the AR10?

The BM59 is what the M14 promised to be, and wasn't. Shuff can cut a Garand receiver into a BM59/M14 hybrid of sorts, with most parts being BM59 but accepting M14 magazines so you can retain commonality!
