I was thinking about how a feature on one rifle was carried forward and used on a succeding rifle......
The top rifle is a 1899 Savage....it has a five round rotary magazine....Did Melvin Johnson own a '99 and borrow the rotary magazine concept for his 10 round rotary magazine in the M1941 Johnson rifle....could be. (Bill Ruger later in the 10-22 mag?)
Johnson held the patent on the 7-8 lug bolt / barrel lock up idea. The bolt only had to turn about 11 degrees to unlock. Johnson worked for Eugene Stoner in the 50's and I do believe the bolt / barrel idea was carried over to the M16......
Anyway any and all thoughts on this theme are welcome. It seems that rarely does an idea come from completely out of the blue.
