I was planning on having 1911-2011 engraved on the right side of the slide with eagles on both sides at the very end of the slide. Now what to put on the left side? I've thought of "American Classic", "In God We Trust", which I really don't like. I need help here guys so what's your thoughts?

LP thank you for the idea. For those of you not familiar to the phrase: “ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ” (or in latin script “Molon labe”) means “Come and take them!”. It is what the Spartans reportedly said to the Persians when they were told to surrender their weapons. It's what I'm going to tell the Obama police when they come for my weapons. All things considered not a bad slogan.

So far your ideas sound like obamas. How about engraving something like "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I was thinking "Suck on this!". But a good "Go F Yourself Obama" would be cool too. Maybe the Molon Labe thing below?

Wait for flash

Seriously, I'm not a huge fan of engraving a lot of stuff, but it should be something classy and a little mysterious.

I personally like Donald Sutherland's engraving on the 1911 he used in "The Mechanic" that said "Amat Victoria Curam" which is latin for "Victory loves preparation."

I'm getting a tatoo when I get home of what Russell Crowe said in Gladiator, "What we do in life echoes in eternity" with a little Marine Corps flair.

I'm narrowing in on several possibilities, 1)-Truth-Justice-Freedom, 2)-America's Gun 3)-Serve and Protect
I'm still open for suggestions as my slide is still not back from Wilson. I do appreciate all the suggestions.

The semi-final engraving is: 1911-2011 on the right side of the slide. An American Heritage on the left side of the slide. Any thought?

Guys give a guy a chance. I'm just now finishing it up as the slide just did come home this week after being at Wilson Combat for a rear sight cut and sights. I lapped the slide to the frame today and had planned on fitting the rest of the parts, however Mr. Arthritis has advised my hands that they are through for the day. I hope to finish fitting the parts tomorrow and test fire it on Friday or Saturday. Once I get it test fired I'll take pictures and post as they will be the "before" pictures. It then goes for engraving and then to get Cerecoated and to have a flush cut barrel with a reverse crown job. When it comes home I'll take the after pictures. So far this has been a great learning experience and I've developed a new respect for pistol smiths and gun smiths. In fitting some of the parts its stroke once with a file and put it back together to check for fit. I've really taken my time and have read, called Wilson, watched Wilson you tubes and took by other Wilson part for comparison for this build. Working on a 1911 isn't much different than an M1 Garand just smaller parts! I appreciate all the comments regarding this build.

OK, Guys it's finally together and functioning properly. I'm headed to the range to test fire it and to see how it does with live fire. I'll post pictures of weapon and maybe the target provided it's good enough.

OK guys there is good news and bad news. I guess with all first time builds there can be a hitch in the get a long. Good news; the pistol loads, extracts and ejects as it should. Bad News; It fired correctly for the first three rounds then I pulled the trigger but the hammer didn't drop. I found by lifting the hammer it would release and shoot. Back to the bench to find the hooks on the hammer were catching the sear. I need to shape the sear but don't have a jig and without a jig its like dancing in the dark. So I ordered a pre fitted sear/disconnector/hammer from Nowlin which should drop in and solve the problem. I'll get a sear jig if I do another build as I would to learn the craft. The parts shipped from Midway last night so I should be back at the range this weekend, then maybe you'll see the pictures.

LP as I've said in the past I didn't do this build to save $$$$, which is a good thing. At some point I'll figure out the total and post it, I've kept all the receipts. I met with the Jeff Flanery today who is going to engrave the slide, slide stop and thumb safety. Jeff lives close by and is a regular fixture at the big gun shows like Louisville. Here is Jeff's web site: http://www.flannerygunengraving.com/
It will be about six weeks at Jeff's for engraving and then it's back to Wilson Combat for Armor Tuff finish and a little gun smith work. I'm having the barrel flush cut and the bore countersunk and the slide stop countersunk. Quoted time is 12 weeks at Wilson's. None of these places are aware of our Timmy's in the door on Monday and out of the door on Saturday in the same week. The final engraving will be: Right side of the slide will have ~1911-2011~ the left side of the slide will have ~An American Heritage~. I'll keep you guys advised as this progresses and now it's off to build number 2?

You could contact Turnbull and see about having him roll "engrave" one of the old original slide engravings. He has many of the original back in the day roll stamps.
