View Full Version : M1 Ejects fired cases back to 5 o'clock

My M1 ejects to my 5 o'clock. Because I shoot left handed the ejected cases often hit me on the right side of my head, quite often on my right eye (thank God for shooting glasses).
How can I change the angle of ejection on my Garand?

Thanks in advance.

Gary

You can start with making sure your rifle is lubed properly. The op-rod hump should knock the brass forward to about the 1 o'clock position when cycling the next round in. The last round's case should go out to 3 o'clock (or there about). If lubing the rifle properly does not help strip the bolt, clean it and do the same with the op-rod spring. Last resort change all the springs.

Something here that might have a bearing, what ammo are you using?

My only guess would be a weak ejector spring in the bolt.

It hasn't mattered what the ammo is... Does the same with reloads and varies loads and some match ammo I've had around.

Do you have another rifle that you could trade op-rod springs with?

Helped a bit. Ejects back to about 4:30 now. Still getting nailed with ejected cases but not so often..
Going to try some other options...........

Even the extractor spring can be an issue.
