My son showed up at the house with an AK he did not care for Left it in my safe and went home with one of my ARs. I never cared much for them till I got this one and it has proven to be a fun gun. Most of the military guys at the range are familiar with them so no reaction when I fire it. The "civilians " are either Rambo types and love it or question what I am doing with an almost machine gun! The gun was made to use junk ammo. It has yet to fail to function on any surplus ammo I've used in it.

What could anyone possibly like about AKs. I mean, other than ammo at twenty cents a round. And the perfect amount of recoil for a day of shooting cheap ammo. And, of course, absolute reliability, even if you never ever clean the damned thing. It's a mystery.

I've never fired one or even held one. When the SKS and AK craze hit years ago I was right there. Coulda had one or two at the old dirt cheap prices. I spent my money elsewhere. I was really into better dead than red then, so I wasn't interested in any combloc weapon. No regrets. I don't have anything against people who like em.

I built a Romy G kit last year on a OOW receiver. Lots of fun at the range, holds groups on a regular sheet of paper at 100 yds.

But when I pull it out to show someone, the women's reaction is always the same. OMG, you have a terrorist gun?

When SHTF, you won't need 500 yd kill shots. You'll need dead on reliability at 50 yds for a lot of zombies.

Mine's an '82 I think. Now that places like Century are selling them cheap it's hardly worth the hassle, unless you're trying to build on a blank and avoid the serial number.

One thing I can say about the AK is that the damn thing goes bang each time you pull the trigger.
