Guys,
My daughter's boy friend is looking to build a tactical shotgun and has asked me my thoughts, I'm trying to lean him toward a Rem 870 as the gun to build from. He has it stuck in his head he has to have the ATI brand top folding stocks which is plastic.

I have looked around and have found only one other top folding stock, this one is metal.

Now I've never fired a shotgun with any folding stock, but from the looks of them I'm afraid he's going to fire a few rounds and find he doesn't like it. They look like they have little area for cheek weld, the cheek weld will push your line of sight way off to the left and line of sight may be low? Say nothing about hurting you from the plastic or metal bar hitting your face under recoil. Yeah, they look cool, they fold up and make storage easy, but practical?
I think I would lean toward a side folding stock, I see there is a couple that have shock absorbing systems like this one, (looks like these are new to the market through ATI, no listing at Brownell's yet.)http://www.popguns.com/advancedtechnology/atisidefolders.htm

Would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has any experience with any of these or your thoughts even if you don't. Hate to see him waste money on something he's going to take off the gun after the first outing.
