Guys, does anyone have any experience with one of those old shortened(cut, shortened and welded) Garand Receivers modified to M14 configuration? My question is would They use an M14 bolt(which I assume You would have to),and if so,Would the extra length of the Garand heel cause problems with the shorter M14 bolt? Thanks for any help, and if anyone knows of some pics or has any of one of these I'd love to see them.

Yah, ask Iron worker how much he'd charge to make that bolt hold open, I'll bet it's a bit saucy. I have one that works now but I only have one. Well, I had two but as you all know the first was stolen by carl maunz. I need to find a place that will cast the thing and then I'll be in business.
Back to the OP, I do know that the great Elmer Balance has done the mod and if he's done it, it must work.

A machinist could convert the BM59 hold open but a machinist isn't going to make the thing from scratch or at least not for any amount of money that is "affordable".

Elmer did it and I think he is doing it again! I saw the jig and some cut receivers laying around but nothing welded yet. I thought he was doing M1s but the jig is to short. He does not share all his info with me so I have to wait and see. He was doing M14 bolts a while back.

There is a post on the M14 forum by user cass with some pics and some detailed information.
There is also a post by Ironworker where he did a mod on a M1 receiver that uses almost all M14 parts that is also a very good read.
