Just like the title says I went shooting my 54 today and after two rounds the trigger group comes unlatched:( What causes this? Is it still safe to shoot? Im going elk hunting on wednesday and this is my only gun.

I believe the locking lugs are worn (guessing no spare parts). You may be able to peen them for a better fit, but you should wait for anyone with more knowledge (most everyone else) before you start pounding on any parts!

I took the trigger assembly out of my 53. Will my accuracy be ok being that I have a scope?

Either lugs are flat or wood on the stock is compressed or both. When closing the trigger guard you should start to feel resistance in closing about 1 - 3/4 inch from closing and guard should be hard to close.
You can try and shim under the trigger assembly with thin wood veneer or cut strips of refridgerator magnet

This lug isnt very bad but on a real worn one it would be flat in this area

Another temporary, permanent sometimes, thing you can do is to squeeze the trigger guard in a vice to put more spring tension on the back latch when closed. I just pad a vice up and put some safety glasses on, squeeze away and go slow, check, try again, check. Do it till the back of the guard touches the trigger when you try to close it.
