occupy Wall Street

Before I get all one sided and dig my boots in, is there merit to the occupy wall street movement? I know that the overall tone I get from them is of a socialist group of redistributionists who do not respect private property or personal freedoms. This all said, are there isolated items, within their grievances, that have merit?

A few assumptions I would have of the group thus far, correct me if I look wrong on something;
1. Against freedom to one's own wealth
2. Against right to private property in general
3. Most probably anti gun
4. For welfare of "the common man" but not of corporations

Tell me where I'm all wet please.

I've been trying to nail down exactly what these guys are. No one, not even themselves, really knows. One guy may be all about exposing corruption in the government, the next guy won't care because he may be all about wealth redistribution. There is appeal to a wide variety of people, even those who don't shower. I think this is why this movement is still around, there is a little something for everyone.

As a whole, I think they are a bunch of useful idiots. If this was not arranged by the George Soros's of the world they definately have, or will, co opt it. Right now I think all the different Occupy organizations are not very tightly organized. For example you see in Oakland they become violent, but only a few other cities follow suit. If there were central organization you'd see 'em move in lock-step. If this thing lasts thru the winter it'll become a problem. Right now it's a bunch of people looking for handouts and avoiding the bath tub.

Having dealt with several of them who have been arrested they are IDIOTS!. They have a mob mentality and dont really know what they want and do not realize they are pawns and part of the financing for this is coming from Hugo Chavez.

Okay, so in your opinions so far these folks are;
a. Pawns
b. don't have a defined goal
c. government corruption (interesting point and one I think we can all agree on) but corruption of only things important to them? More on that below
d. income redistribution

Regarding government corruption, I am happy to stand by these people and support their call to end government corruption but does this mean;
1. an end to corporate welfare
2. an end to welfare for average joe
3. an end to bastardizing the 2nd amendment
4. an end to the theft of personal wealth by the government

See how the definition of "corruption" can be manipulated? One mans corruption is another mans gravy train. I want ALL corruption GONE.

Raise the minimum wage immediately to $18/hr. Create a maximum wage of $90/hr to eliminate inequality.

Abolish the death penalty and life in prison. We call for the immediate release of all death row inmates from death row and transferred to regular prisons.

Release all political prisoners immediately.

Immediate withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Abolish the debt limit.

Ban private gun ownership.

Strengthen the separation of church and state.

Immediate debt forgiveness for all.

End the 'War on Drugs'.

Like I said, getting rid of government corruption sounds great but these things only want corporate handouts gone while creating an entire welfare state. One form of corruption replaced by another solves nothing.

If these demands are true, these things are savages and have no place living in a country with our constitution. I'll also wish them all a Merry Christmas with my usual fond wishes.

to be truthful, they were still all opposed to enslaving people. in their view, the blacks weren't people, so it doesn't apply. in that time, that would be the equivelant of enslaving your dog.
