Humpi, congrats my brother! I shot a small buck this year (season isn't over I just won't have another chance between now and closing day) I wish I'd let him walk now because I thought he was as wide as his ears, but he wasn't! I have LOTS of excuses, but truth is I just didn't spend enough time looking at him. Yet this season was GREAT! I've never seen as much rutting activity during season as I did this year! From the time I'd get on stand till I'd leave I had LOTS of small Bucks running does, bucks responded to calling and rattling better than ever! The day I took this 'lil guy it rained all day! I love hunting in the rain, because it seems to increase deer movement, in fact I shot this one with my 270 WSM at a fast trot at about 200yds. Rain was blowing in my blind's window and it was all I could do to get on him before he went into the river bottom. Great hunt just should have looked a lil closer! In my part of Oklahoma you can take a buck and 2 does now during the gun season. I spent the rest of my time trying to take a doe with my 14" 44 mag TC Contender pistol. Rushed a shot at a doe at 130 yds and shot underneath her, but still just had a ball none the less. I had a bobcat catching gophers in front of my blind, which I ended up having to stand up and hiss at him. The lil sucker was walking right to me. I spooked him at about 10 yds and then he just went into the woods behind me. I spent the rest of the evening wondering if he might think I was a turkey, praying he wouldn't jump on my head! I saw lots of 'lil piss head bucks looking for and chasing does the one pictured is standing about 15' from me. It was just a GREAT time to be in the woods. My nephew did harvest 2 doe and a small buck so we put 4 in the freezer and we've already had some fresh "chicken fried" hindquarter steaks, plus there's still a month and a half of bow season and a special antlerless Holiday gun season the week before Christmas. So I'll take the ole TC Contender out and see if I can't shoot a doe yet! Good Luck ALL and be Safe! Thomas

I love you guys who hunt. I've learned that there's really not that many Garand enthusiasts that hunt as well as punch paper. Nice animals boys. Sorry I haven't been around much, I have been all over the place for the last two weeks hunting. I just can't stop!

No matter how long you boil the antlers they never taste any better. I wish we could hunt with rifles in Oh. and I avoid public land during shotgun season. Congrats on the deer.
