Hi all.
I finally got to use my C&R license over the Thanksgiving weekend.
AIRsurplus had a two MN for one, That being a 91/30(Most likely a a round receiver) and an M44 they were sold for $220, I was lucky enough, I guess to get in on that deal, They arrive on Monday $clapper$
Oh and my lovely wife was nice enough to let me buy an 880 round crate of 7.62x54r in two spam cans.
This will make 3 MN's for me, I will most likely give my brother the 91/30 for Christmas, Since I already have one.
Pretty stoked, I mean within reason, Not like when I bought my Garand, But still cool.
I will post up some pic's if anyone is interested.
Have fun.

Unsure, But I bought my first MN for $79 with all the extras a couple of years ago, I felt it was a good price, Every other M44 has been over $150 locally.
Everything is going up, Honestly, You cant really beat the price for a rifle.

MN's were going $229 - $269 this summer at the Greensboro gunshow in August. I was flabbergasted! One seller had people waiting in line to fill out paperwork. All of his signage was mis-spelled and just plain wrong. He was calling htem 31/90's. I didn't see what they were going for at the last show a couple weeks ago. Crazy.

There was a crate of 91/30's for $119.95 out the door. I almost had a buddy buy one but he's saving $$$ for a south store trip in a couple of weeks.

The 91/30's are still a good deal. The 44's have gone up and I haven't seen anyone carry 38's for a while.

The M44 is an obnoxiously loud rifle. You will become the scourge of the range. People will hate you.

1944 Tula M44 I gave it a quick wipedown, But, It looks like I have a little work ahead of me.
I opened the 91/30, Just to see if everything was OK, But I didn't take any pic's, Its going to be a gift to my brother for Christmas.
I also cut the shipping bands off the ammo to have a look inside, Not really much to see till I open a spam can.

Looks to be in quite good shape! Will You be leaving on the shellac?I'm considering stripping it off My stock because I think it was added during overhaul, but I'm not quite sure about original finish.

I was going to leave the shellack on, I was basically going to clean all the cosmo off and see how it shoots.

Check out this web site. www.7.62X54r.net
More info than you can read in one day. Here in Alabama the price range on the M44 is from $85.00 to $250.00 depending on country of mfg., condition, and how bad you want it. The first spam ammo can I tried to open, well it was like a monkey humping a football until I got the hang of it. These rifles are fun and cheep to shoot.
Hope all my BT Brothers have a great Christmas!

I hate to admit it, but I bought a 91/30 from Buds and that thing will outshoot damn near everything in my safe, I mean the think is a tack-driver. I can barely get my Garands on paper at 100 but I was shooting 6" groups with this $79 rifle. Oh the irony.

You should slug the barrel on the MN's as the Soviets weren't too fussy about things like specs and dimensions. I've heard a lot measure out to .310 and if that's the case will benefit from .303 handloads. Sort of like a Russian Enfield you might say.

I slugged my first Mosin for reloading, It measured out at .312, There was a post on 7.62 that some guy had measured a few different bullets and found that the Sierra .303 cal 180 grain Spitzer bullets measured .311 out of the ten or so he pulled to check, So I went with them.
I should check my M44, It will give me something else to do other than plink away on the computer.
