Medium grey parkerization

It's funny... the top and bottom pic is darker than the middle pic. But the top one resembles mine.

All the same rifle, its mostly the lighting but also the two bottom pics were taken 3-4 years ago and park was dry.
I have since rubbed grease into the park and I do think the color has change some since. The top pic was taken a few months ago

The next time I have one done I am going to give serious consideration to going with the zinc park.

Last one I had done I asked Tim to do a 2-tone for me. The receiver and barrel were zinc, everything else (sights, bolt, clip latch..etc.) was done manganeese. It was beautiful. I'm thinking of sending in another for the same job.

Maybe he could mix the zinc and manganese? Or, maybe swirl them together like a chocolate/vanilla soft-serve icecream cone on a hot summer day. That would be nice.

They still seem to park but correctly but I have not experimented enough to really have a grasp. If there were a market for it, I'd set up a third booth and give it a whirl, there is no such market though.

I'd have to say, this is the nicest M-1 Garand NM rifle I have ever seen minus the red grease.

would there be any benefit to mixing park solutions?Does Manganese wear differently than zinc,or rather,withstand wear better?Would mixing combine each's qualities and make an uber park?

I had some parts done by a guy and they turned out a darker grey. I cant remember know what type solution he said he used, but I really liked the color

The two parks have different results on the salt water test. This means nothing to us because we aren't doing any beach landings.

All phosphating comes out light or dark grey. If you cover it with green-colored grease, it will turn green. I once turned a freshly blued gas cylinder set green by putting green grease on it.

Winchester used Picric Acid on the metal before phosphating, which is why their finish came out so light. It probably turned green when packed in cosmoline.

Phosphate mix will yield a light grey color; whereas manganese will yield a darker grey-black color. There are pre-dips available that will come out black. The disadvantage of the light grey is that the parts will come out different shades, depending on the hardness of the metal; hard metal will come out light, & softer metal will come out dark.

If you mix the light grey phosphate with the darker manganese, you will get a medium grey.

China White marker. I bought them from eBay. They were 2 for $1 delivered. That was at least 6 years ago I got 'em, I've only used 10% of one.

There is a really good chance that we are. I just saw a re-enactment of the D-Day landings on television, and it was held in Ohio on the shores of whatever that big lake is up there. Lots of beaches in the Great Lakes. :) I think they are all fresh water, though, so maybe the salt water test will only apply if we storm a beach on the coasts or the Gulf.

I am not the same Nog consumer I was. I usually run a 170 cholesterol. Just had physical right after Nog season. I averaged 1 qt of nog a day for 30 days and my cholesterol was 275! Going back for a recheck shortly to see if the Nog has drained from me.
