Is there a way to replace or preferably, repair a cracked elevation drum? The pinion is fine and even though the assembly seems to work okay I don't like the looks of the cracked drum.

There is a guy on the M14 Forum that does it but honestlty once you pay for parts, shipping, labor its not worth it.
Its cheaper to buy another

How rare is an IHC with a W inside a hexagon?

I repair them also, but lots of drums are either cracked or have the tooth worn down. I have the tools to replace the drum, but you would need to find a drum in good shape and that is where the problem lies. Loose uncracked drums are hard to locate.
I have about 60 that I need drums for !

Mellow,
The IHC -Weatherhead (w in a hexagon) pinions are not too hard to find--just pricey.
