I picked up a very nice SA 5.7 yesterday, all parts appear to be correct. I never gave this SN variation much thought but could not pass up on the condition of this one.
Question is does the SN block really make much difference in value among collectors, if any?

5.7 mil was an HRA serial number block. There are only about 6100 SAs in the 5.7 range - making a 5.7 SA fairly rare. I always made sure I had one (or a few) in my racks. Guys will pay a little more for them.

Thanks Sean. Any thoughts on what a little more is, % ? Might just consider moving this one on to a new home.

I wish I'd've know that sooner. I just sold a NS hand-picked 5.7SA to a friend of mine a few months back. Never could get it out of the 9 ring on an SR1 target so it had to go. It was all correct. I let him have it for $850. I think I maybe broke even on it.

5.7's can bring a slight premium over other post wars, say a 5.8 for instance. The thing is, like any other rifle, condition is everything. They are not worth anything like twice as much, but maybe a few hundred or so.

The 5.7 is worth little more to me. What it has in rarity it lacks in quality. Rockwell case hardness of 45 is substantially less then other Garands. Then you have the rash of these receivers needing the face squared off.

We sure are lucky to have such knowledgeable people post on this forum. I think I better unload this poor excuse for a Garand at the first opportunity.
