I posted this at the bottom of another thread, but I'm not sure that anyone saw it.
I have an HRA hammer that reads 5546008 HR AC left to right from the pin hole. I can't find a reference for it. Anyone know if it's M1 or M14 and the serial number range it would be correct for?

I noticed in the other thread, that the number on theirs was HRA C5546008. Are you sure it doesn't say "HRA C" following the number?

My eyes aren't that bad, lol. It's spaced like I typed it, HR AC.

I am not very observant about this stuff unless I actually care. I got nothing :(

I think that it is for the M14

OK, that's what I was afraid of. Is there anyway that I can document it?

HRA before the # is for a Garand. HRA or HR after the # is for a M14.

Are'nt they fully inter-changable? I've only got two HRA's, and I've never paid much attention to the hammers. I'm going to check them when I get home just for curiosity sake.

HRA before the # is for a Garand. HRA or HR after the # is for a M14.
But Babcock's book shows 5546008-HR-N as correct for 5.6 to 5.7 HRA M1 rifles. Is this a mistake?

Did some digging around on the M14 Forum
Bill Ricca states that any hammer marked HR is a M14 hammer
Sounds like thats what you have, and yes they will fit on a garand

That does make sense, thanks. I'm guessing then that Larry's book is either wrong, or some of the hammers somehow made it into the late HRA M1's, similiar to the other discussion we had about odd parts making it into otherwise "correct" rifles.
