No typo. You're not imagining this.

Does that mean this ship is captained by a socialist?

Francis

And she did what?

And there is nobody else they could find?

This admin is getting more loony by the day!

Oh, captain will have to tell people he drives the "Gabby-G".

Yet another reason why my government embarrasses me. They use the military so unethically that it is now synonymous with the peace corps.

Have an earthquake, send a carrier full of marines to provide welfare benefits that we pay for.

Have a tsunami, send a carrier full of marines to provide welfare benefits that we pay for.

Need a new war ship name? Name it after a communist who voted to steal the wealth of America and provide welfare benefits that we pay for.

If I was going to name something the USS gabrielle giffords, it would be the floating pile of dung I drop in the toilet every am.

Funny how lib presidents always use the Military as the "International Meals on Wheels".

New Navy Recruiting slogan:

"Join me and be gay with glee on the Gabby-G, Go Navy"

I'm not sure exactly how this naming thing works, but I read an article on it yesterday that said the ship was being "sponsored" by the mother of the little girl that was killed at the same time she was shot. Whatever that means.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/checkpoint-washington/post/navy-ship-to-be-named-for-gabrielle-giffords/2012/02/10/gIQABlle4Q_blog.html?hpid=z4

In a statement, the secretary of the navy, Ray Mabus, described Giffords and Roxanna Green as “sources of great inspiration” who “represent the Navy and Marine Corps qualities of overcoming, adapting and coming out victoriously despite great challenges.”

Really? I knew the Air Force's had, but apparently all of our military "leaders" have lost touch with what's actually important.

If that's the criteria, I have a few Silver Star and Navy Cross winners who could go to the front of the line.

Some posthumously.

That's what I was thinking, Francis. Or, you know, maybe one of those guys who got the Medal of Honor, though I think half of the Navy Cross or Silver Star guys probably deserved the MoH, their commanders were just afraid to give them out early on.

Francis

MoH is way too political, agreed.

Why not the USS An Nasaryia, or USS Fallujah?

These battles produced more heroism and personal sacrifice by a long shot.

Uh, that might actually make sense. Can't let that happen.

How about the "USS Gabby's All Star Neuro Team That You, Me Or Anyone In Our Familys Will Never Have Access To". They really did make it all possible.

That'll work, if we're shooting for accuracy, so to speak.

Apparently HerkFE and yourself don't get it, it is for you and yours to do the heavy lifting and dying while gabbie and the federal government give away your loot while you're gone. I respect you guys who want to join the military, to an extent, but I really don't get why you would want to die or risk death for a nation which is no longer any resemblance of what the founders intended. A nation which goes so far as to name its vessels after thieves then to name them after those who actually do the dying for it?

Are you two ready for some other names? Stu will enlighten you in time.

Oh I get it, mostly. The neat part about the oath of enlistment is the part where you swear to defend the constitution against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic. We've all been working on the foreign, I have a feeling a large swath of the population is going to start working on the domestic. If you don't get the military thing, that's cool, you don't get it. A lot of us are here just to have a steady paycheck, while others had or developed "patriotic" reasons to be here.
Anyway, I've been fond of saying this lately, so I'll leave it as my last thought. I love my country, but I sure don't like a lot of the people that live in it.

All I can hope is that a new Pres would be open to changing the names. This happened under Reagan when Carter had some stupid ship names. Changed them all, example is the USS Bataan, it was supposed to be the USS Albight.

Every time I loose faith I read General Washingtons Memoirs and writings. He had to weather plenty of BS with the British, but in the end he was in the right place at the right time.

And the same could be said of WWII, Roosevelt was continuing a progressivly statist drive to nationalize everything. It produced President Eisenhower who helped get the economy of the 1950's rocking.

Kind of funny that in the last 100 years (WWI, WWII, Vietnam, IRAQ/AFG) during these major operations the government has increased social welfare and tried to nationalize industry in the name of fairness.

In the end I believe that current conflicts will produce great leaders like Congressman Alan West. Hopefully they can undo the damage inflicted, America is still the last best hope for Freedom and liberty in the world.

"I love my country, but I sure don't like a lot of the people that live in it. "

Great statement!!!

Hell, I'd go one further and say that I don't like MOST of the people that live in it anymore. They're nothing more than a massive group of tech gadget, reality TV addicted sheep. It's pathetic.

Why are you all getting so worked up over the name of this ship? With the Obama cuts in defence spending, the ship will be in mothballs before it even finishes it's shake down cruise.

Bet that the rudders are broken so that they can make only left (port?) turns!
