Okay, I've been hearing all this talk about Jet's Pizza from you guys and I've never tried it. Wife and I were out for her Birthday shopping and we found a Jet's in Jackson MI. We went in, sat at the table, had the very BEST pizza I've ever had at a major chain. It is better then Pizza Hut used to be, I think Pizza Hut has gone way down hill. Is Jet's better than any pizza I've ever had? Hard to say, it's a variant of pizza that does stand alone in the category it's in, but the best? I've had better pizza, just not very many. I've never had better pizza in new york though!
Consequently, I called my buddy Dan last night to investigate this new york pizza let down. Dan lived in Rochester new york for a few years. He calls these years "The years with no pizza". The absolute worst pizza in the country is had in new york according to many of us on this forum. I think we have a solid majority who firmly think this. By the way, new york does not even have the best coney, Michigan does!
FYI, to lend some credence to both my buddy Dan and I's pizza prowess, we do have a resume.
1. We are both fat
2. Because we are fat, we know pizza
3. We have both traveled this country extensively for work and I may have only missed three states in those travels
4. We both love to try ALL different types of pizza. We are not hung up on a style
5. Without a doubt, Dan claims the best pizza in the world to be Lou Malnati's in chicago. This is a socialist enclave with the lowest common denominator of people living in the area. This goes to show that we aren't singling out new york because it is a dumpster.

If you would like to try Lou Malnati's Pizza, they do deliver to YOU anywhere in this country!

Remember though, every dollar you send to Lou is a tax dollar for the republic of chicago, just sayin.

I am glad you enjoyed Jet's pizza. Jet's is reminiscent f the pizza I love but have not had for decades.
I too am fat. I also love pizza. I cannot say I have traveled as much as you have Tim, but pizza is a staple of my diet. I eat pizza everywhere I go. I consider myself a professional pizza lover. If I ever get to Chicago again I will try Malnati's. The best pizza I have ver had was from Chicago, Maggiano's I believe.

Axe, our Coney is more than a some hotdog eaten by savages. Our Coney is a work of art, a Coney sauce laced upon the hot dog, Koegels please, and covered in onions and mustard. Not a chili dog mind you, a Coney Dog.

As Dirty Harry would say: Anything more than mustard on a hot dog is pure communism. Take it with a grain of salt though as Dirty Harry was from San Fran.

I disagree on the NY thing. The worst pizza I ever had was in Italy. All over. Made for tourists fast and thin crust. Cold by the second half. Cheap and stingy and expensive.

Do you have a resume to give credence to your words? Just how fat are you?

I had some of the best pizza in Naples last year. There are 2 well known places (across the street from each other) that have been in business for a LONG time. Where we ate, they only made marinara and margarita. The stone oven was so hot the olive oil flashed!
Normally I'd agree with you about a hotdog, but I do enjoy a chicago dog with all the trimmings!

You have my undivided attention .
I am a pizza fanatic and try pizza everywhere I go.
Is Jets a local chain limited to MI or are they national ?
The best pizza I have ever tried is an Indiana chain called "Pizza King" based in Muncie,IN. I have taken some of my girlfriends,my wife there and some of the Texas family when visiting the rest of the family and everyone loves it!
It is impssible to find good pizza in Houston.
Barry's is the best I have found.

Now I understand! You guys out there need to add sauce and spices to make your food taste good. All this insted of eating Pizza and hot dogs the way GOD intended. By the way Coney Island is in Boooklyn NY. You can't move it to MI by just stealing the name.

Jets is now in Dallas Fort Worth. I don't know if there are any others in Texas. By buddy Dan lives by that Jets and lives to visit it.

As far as the Coney goes, you get off the Q train at the end of the line and what do you see? Nathan's. Mecca. No better. Anywhere. Period. End of story.

OK, we went to Nathan's. Its OK. It's also just a HOT DOG. Just because they are served at CONEY ISLAND, does not make them "coney dogs". What you get at Nathan's is a CONEY ISLAND HOT DOG. Anyone can slap a Koegel on a steamed bun.

EXACTLY, I'm talking about a Coney Dog, not some hot dog named after my son. The "Coney Dog" is a Michigan art form that is fast spreading across the country now. There is nothing like it anywhere and we don't have a place that makes them within 35 minutes of my house.
I'm terribly sorry to break the news, new york is not appealing on many levels BUT it is a GREAT place to visit but don't go if you're hungry.

Tim,
Next time you come to NYC we have to get together and I will take you to Lombardi's on Spring street and Mott. They are the original Pizza place. Being licensed in 1905 they do a brick oven coal fired pie that is the best. You do have to eat it there and going when they first open is best as they get very crowded. Nothing beats coal fired roasted red peppers on a pizza. Yum, and yes i do know my pizza im 6 foot 265 pounds!!!!!!. As to Hot dogs the only way to get them is off the stand on a street corner in NYC and they have to be Sabrett's with a touch of mustard and a bit of kraut nothing is better than a dirty water dog.

Its so good that we get delivered at work and its luke warm and a bit soggy but man does it hit the spot. I work with a guy who's wife works there and we get a nice discount. Mike you are more than welcome to join in and we can bring Stu also we will just not get any pork on the pie any and all members of the BT brotherhood are invited. Their meatballs are slammin along with the red peppers and fresh garlic. BTW to all that have never had the best pizza in the land they only use fresh mozzarella and it really does make a difference.
