I think that I have been installing my web slings improperly all of this time. I think that I have the metal oriented backwards. Anyone mind posting a photo of theirs so I can compare? Thanks!

I put the loose end of the sling up towards the stock , flat part of the buckle is facing away from stock

You are better off installing it backwards. If you install it properly, the metal keeper will scratch the stock.

True but I install my slings to use them and to have the sling installed with the end up it is easier to adjust length when loop is around arm
There is no right and wrong, just whatever works for you

When we rigged the web slings for our drill platoon we used the metal keeper to make the sharp click against the trigger housing. Now I adjust the keeper to sit just above the trigger guard and it does not contact the stock or the trigger guard.

Try this:

It was helpful to me when I started in HP, before I went to the 1907 sling.
Good luck.

There is a site that shows clearly how the sling is mounted also the slings used by the US military go to Rifleslings.com and maybe it will help.

This is what I do on all the ones with web slings, no matter what it looks like :) I've seen and repaired way to many lower forearm gouges to put them on "correctly". Out shooting is one thing, but for storage or shooting off the bench, its basackwards for me. :)

I guess that I have them installed correctly; depending on the source they are all at least subtly different. Thank you all for your help.

This is how I've always put mine on:

That is exactly how I have installed mine with regard to the keeper and hook orientation. Was reading the Reisch/Poyer book and the instructions were to orient the hardware oppositely, hence the question. Thanks for the detailed photo.

Thats the correct way. I still mount mine backwards though so the flat is against the rifle. I store all my rifles in silicone gunsocks and stand them up against each other in the safe, so keeping the slings reversed cuts down on the scratches in the wood or trigger housing. When shooting its a quick deal to switch it around if needed. I used to store my guns with M1907 slings to, but have since taken all of those off for storage.
