Does the paperwork need to be completed? I doubt the serial number is intact...
How high will it go?

If a CMP staffer picked up dog crap from his back yard, put it in a bag with a CMP logo and put it up for auction, it would have bids on it.
Even if this thing was recovered from the bocage in Normandy, it's still just rusted junk in my eyes. I don't see the attraction.

I'm disappointed that you all don't find the value here. The DNA of our forefathers, the "greatest generation" is on that rusted hull!

I say we all chip in and then send it to Tim for a park job.

The only thing I find interesting about it is that you can see the op spring through the holes. I don't know why, but that is kind of neat to me.
Unless there is some awesome story behind this thing, it's worth whatever the scrap buyer will give me for it.

Description:
" there may be some minor pitting on the metal parts; the barrel crown may be nicked, and the muzzle may gauge more than “3” on muzzle gauge. The Throat Erosion will gauge more than “5”The overall appearance and condition of the rust grade will generally be rougher than any other grade"

My M1 was found at Kakazu Ridge on Okinawa and the cylinder was found near mount suribachi. A Navy pilot picked them up with much more stuff and documented this. I can bet that rifle on auction was found the same way and was cleaned out of storage. I have seen them go for allot of money in the past. Rick B

I thought anything could be fixed with duct tape and WD40.

Gives a whole new meaning to, "bottom of the barrel". I'm sure the story behind this one is worth more than the pile of rust.
