Well guys let me start by saying, I am NO competition shooter! (this goes without saying when you see my targets) My goal was to be able to hit a 10" target consistently at 500 yds with my AR. Thanks to a LOT of help from you guys, well I'm almost there, in fact 6 out of 10 rounds found themselves in a 6" target while 3 were well outside the 6" and 1....... is off paper entirely. Yet the 4 flyers I knew I flubbed the shot when it was fired! So I think I not only accomplished my goal, but with practice I think I'll be able to eventually put 10 for 10 in something much smaller than a 10" circle! Thanks guys for your help! The Hoser!

fired from a bench using bipods for front rest and bracing the rifle butt with my left hand. 500 yds

Nice shootin'. Looks like you hit on the right load for that AR. Keep practicing and have fun out there!

Can you do it with a rifle though? Pellet guns are neat though :)

Whats your goal? Are you trying for long range hunting or the smallest groups on papaer.
If you are target shooting for smallest groups on paper get off the bipod and get afront rest. JMO
I dont hunt with mine, just go for accuracy at the range. I had a bi-pod and took it off for a bag rider and front rest. It did make a difference

Well Timmah, I don't know yet, I bought a 308 Win, once I aquire the funds to get the rest of the equipment I'm going to work on 1000 yds! Lots of fun playing with it!

Thanks for the Link "O". The AR I kinda want to use for coyote hunting. To really shrink my groups I think I'd have to get a 'lil better glass. That 6" target at 500 is rather small through the 3x9 Leupold I have mounted. I had a co-worker with me and was able to practice spotting his rounds via spotting scope! That was pretty cool in itself watching the "contrail" of the bullet flight. He by the way out shot me with my own rifle, putting 8 for 10 in the black! His eyes are 26 years younger than mine! Good excuse and I'm sticking with it! Thomas

For a 3x9 scope I would say you did real well!!
