Ended up not shooting today (trying to make Monday's match) but a friend wanted a Garand so my wife and I drove up to Butner for the sales.

Picked out a nice SA 1906 bowie cut bayo w/red grip panels.

Picked a 2.7 SA FG with a mw=1, TE=2. Decent stock with rebuild cartouches.

Saw several nice win-13's, 2 had SA lockbars, a 3rd had a wra oprod, a 4th had wra bolt and several other parts (front sight, and trigger guard).

Some of the HRA SG's had pristine USGI stocks. Saw a LMR barrel leave.

The new cash & carry policy was really nice. My friend is stopping by the house today to get his rifle.

I thought I was going to see Canes lay out some cash for an M1a/M14 kit, he just couldn't pull the trigger on the condition.

It does appear that CMP brings nicer rifles to the games and leaves the junk for the stores and mail order.

Most of the FG's had MW 2+, TE 4. This was the only SA FG I saw that would be a "shooter" in my book (MW ~1) I need all the help I can get with accuracy. I did not look at the HRA FG's. 2 of the Win-13's had barrels with similar measurements as the rifle I picked. I personally can't justify spending another $200 for the trademark (unless it came with the lockbars, win bolt, and win oprod).

2.7 million SA FG:

My 1906 bayonet (no numbers stamped on the crossguard):

Yeah.. I couldn't get over the $600 M14 kit with nasty-ass stocks. If there was some nice wood to be had I probably would have done it.

JAK is right, the CMP does bring nice stuff most of the time.
