Just getting back to town...

Hunted turkeys for a week. Am too tired (and still on the plane home) to type much.

Killed two.

Full report later... About to land have to turn off portable electronic devices.

Didn't get to shoot one this year, but the dog got hold of a hen yesterday. Do not worry, the hen made a last minute escape.

Tried to hunt this property for an hour before lunch, but 2 jakes had 6 hens locked down with no evidence of a mature gobbler. Buddy scouted it the night before and saw the gobbler running the jakes hard. Hatched a plan using a jake decoy and squatting hen and he couldn't stand it.

After the shot I noticed he lacked the black barr across his middle tail feathers.

This year the population seemed to be at an extreme low. For the past few years we had been able to hunt multiple gobblers on each property and could be picky when making a shot... not this year. The norm was to see a single gobbler and set up on him. It definitely made things harder. The farmers almost always said they hadn't been seeing many turkeys this year. Hopefully, the trend will reverse and large flocks will hold in the spring.

Of course on the last day of Turkey season and I slept in just a tad. These cameras show you what you are missing. I know what the Deer was saying, " Hey dummy get out of here hes going to eat you " lol Rick

That bird has a nice beard. How about the spurs? Those are what really matter to me!
