Theres at least one thread here where it is mentioned that after 80 rounds the Ultimak gets hot enough to burn you.

Is there a different rail available that would avoid this problem, or will all rails do this?

Other discussion on this is welcome.

Here is the link to the other similar mount. This mount seems heavier and may do better, but I don't have first hand experience with the Garand version. Any mount that clamps onto the barrel can experience heat transfer. The Amega Ranges units do have a strip of metal that goes between the mount
and the top of the barrel. Doug Green, the inventor, claims less heat transfer because of those strips.

However, you'll need to consult with Tim to see if this clears the oprod on the Mini-G

I've seen wood rear handguards that look like charcoal on the inside. I would think the mount is aiding in cooling the barrel.

They will all get hot. Even on a standard Garand they will all get hot.

I love the Ultimak rail but it does get very hot. I came up with two solutions. The first was to just wear shooting gloves(or Mechanix gloves) which is smart anyway. The second was to add a cheap rail to the bottom of the stock and run a Magpul AFG. I personally feel the rail benefits out weigh the draw backs. with just the ultimak I have a Co-witnessed Aimpoint T-1, Quick disco sling mount and a weapon light.
