Does anyone know if the M1 10" bayonet is supposed to wobble when on the rifle, or do I just have a poor fitting one???

I have some that wobble and some that are fairly tight.

ok just checking. It seems like the lug on the gas cylandar is too far back. But I guess thats how it is. It stays on good it just moves around

The wobble is caused by the ring on the bayonet where it goes over the gas lock not by the locking lug. Some of the holes are slightly bigger than others and the gas locks might be worn also.

The one I have has a rattle when installed as well.

I was told a long time ago that the loose fit was to compensate for dirty, muddy conditions. It was also beneficial when thrusting so as not to torque too much on the lug.I have no proof, but it made sense.

Since they were not fitted and issued to only one rifle. The fit cannot be so tight that you have to beat the bayo on and off let not so loose that it comes off on its own. So if it mounts and dimounts with very little to no effort than it is serviceable. Remember they were designed first for the 03 than M1 so they had to fit any and all of these rifles, so slightly different sized gas locks and wear and tear on the ring it self would mean you have it fitting loose on one but ok on another.

Yeah that makes alot of sense. I guess it just caught me off guard I figured it would fit snug but after I got the cosmo off it and cleaned it up, I am very happy with the condition of it. I was expecting something alot more beat up. Very happy with it for the price.449450

Just an update on the bayonet. I puchased a WWII type gas cyinder lock screw without the hump and put it on the rifle. The bayonet now fits very good with little wobble Also think the lock looks better on the rifle too.
