Here's my project rifle. It's a Feb '43 Springfield.
This is the rifle my dad and I worked on.
Mostly complete.
I'd like to make it as complete as possible.
That's my Dad's bayonet from Korea.

Here's where I'm at:

Replace:
Barrel. It has a SA 3-52 on it now.
Safety. It has an HRA now.
Trigger housing. It has a WRA now.
Gas tube. Pitted.
Repark rifle.

I'm pretty proud of it.
I'd like to find a SA trigger housing, rear sight, safety and get a better looking gas tube.
Eventually replace the barrel. This barrel does not pass the bullet test.

Danny, the gas cylinder looks fine. They're cast stainless steel and all have tons of casting flaws. You can send it out to refinish-Tim or Tony Giacobbe will re-do it- or you can just clean it, paint with header paint, and bake it. Don't remove the stacking swivel when you re-finish it. It'll look way better. As far as the other parts you'll find tons of people willing to trade parts with you. As far as getting the correct '43 barrel that will be big-time pricey.

I've looked around for parts and have found a few places that look promising.
As far as the barrel, I think I'll let Tim put a new one on. '43 barrels are pricey, and I'd like a good shooter.
That would probably the best deal for me right now.

The thought of re-crowning this barrel has also crossed my mind.
How much of the barrel can be taken off while re-crowning?

Forget that it fails the bullet test, how does it shoot??
Sometimes a worn barrel will still shoot well.

It doesn't shoot too bad. . I haven't shot it past 100yds in a while.
The barrel is probably the last thing I'll do anything with because it shoots pretty good.
I'll take some pics of the groups.

Thats a beauty of a stock Danny. Good looking rifle. Definetly check those places I suggested to you. I know you can get an SA trigger housing there.

The stock I had wasn't very pretty so I ordered a Dupage/Boyd stock and used my old faithful Rit dye stain.
I requested a stock with straight grain, and boy did they deliver!
I'm really proud of how it turned out!

By the way, I wished I had Tim stamp it for me.
Is it not advisable to stamp a stock after staining it?
All I did so far is stain it, and BLO it.
