View Full Version : The Unofficial BT Non-Postal shoot
Since it's seems unlikely that Tim will hold a postal shoot this year, I decided to start a FUN shoot. There are no entry fees. There are no prizes. There are no losers....only winners. You are a winner because you got your fat butt out of the house, went to the range and shot some holes in a piece of paper. All you have to do is to post a picture or pictures of your targets.
Since we have over 380 BT members, we should be able to post plenty of pictures
The rules will be the same as Tim's postal shoot except for the distances.
You get 8 shots from any M1 Garand receivered weapon with open sights.
You may have a front rest ONLY and NO rear rest.
You can use any ammo you like.
The recommended distance is 100 yds, If you only have access to a 50 yd range, then shoot at 50 yd. If you want to shoot from 200yds, go ahead. Just let us know what distance you are shooting at.
You will use and can print out the target on a 8.5"x11" piece of paper
Here is link to Shuff's postal shoot that has the .pdf and .doc to print out the targets
http://forum.shuffsparkerizing.com/showthread.php?346-Shuff-s-Summer-2011-Postal-Shoot
Any and all excuses for less than stellar shooting will be accepted.
Examples of acceptable excuses are....barrel must be bent......hurricane force winds were blowing....playboy bunnies were sunbathing at the range.
Shoot as many times you want, with as many garands you have and post as many targets you want
Remember this is suppose to be a FUN shoot.
Good Luck and Good Shooting
I got to the range with two of my garands that were reparked by Tim. I got the rifles sighted in at 100 yds and shot 5 clips with each rifle. Here are the 2 best from each rifle.
This is my February 44 garand.

This is my September 53. The target is on the right is one of the best groupings I ever shot. The flyer that went into the ten-ring, ruined it.

Just got back from the range, these are SR-1 targets which I beleive the black ring are the same size as Shuffs just has a bigger x and 10 ring
I will shoot again when I can print the right target
100 YDS 1967 hxp
Shot this one with my latest WRA Rack Grade ,darn flier

This one was same distance, same ammo but with the rifle I just assembled with a VAR Barrel
Another stikin flier!!! I'm sure they are both my fault

Good shooting Orlando. I put a link in my original post to Shuff's postal shoot that has the targets I used.

How big across is the black measure on the target you are using?
I am having computer issues and cant download DOC or pdf files and the photobucket link target is printing only 3 5/8 inches and I know its supposed to be bigger than that
The black measure 6 inches across. The 10 ring is 2 inches across.

Bill,
Nice groups!I seem to always ruin an otherwise excellent group with a flyer.Perhaps it is caused by a first in cartridge,or last out? That seems to be My problem with the last of a clip.

Ok just found the post today, it's a little late for a trip but Ill break out one of my Garands and go run a few. In fact I've never fired the SA Correct Grade I bought a couple years back, so I may just as well sight her and see how she shoots! Thomas

Well, today is a me day. I got drunk as a skunk last night on hard apple cider and am currently nursing a ginormous hangover. When the grass gets dry, I'm mowing it and then setting up to do my shoot. I'll be using my BM14 for this shoot and I've never shot it except for 20 test rounds for function.

It appears my group is 3.5" wide at it's widest. I have no idea if there is a way to average a group size or not?

Finally got to the range to shoot a couple of targets with my Winchester FG as promised.
Stepped off 50 yards, I'm working on getting out to 100 yds, she did well after warming up.
First group using 1962 HXP CMP ammo....
http://www.dannybrittonphotography.com/img/s4/v68/p1126638118-4.jpg
Second group, same ammo, after barrel warmed up, group really came together....
http://www.dannybrittonphotography.com/img/s4/v69/p1126638498-4.jpg
I moved the rear sight 4 clicks to the right. I also noticed the rear set was set to 11 up so I moved it 1 click up.
Not too shabby for me. Anxious to get it out to 100 yds and more!
Nice shooting. It will be even more fun at 100 yds with Shuff's target.

Thanks jak!
That's what I'm thinking too!
That target is SMALL at 50!
Should be interesting at 100!
I took the 6 mil I just received out to the range last Friday. It will probably be the last nice warm day for a while.
