So here we go,i bought a late model springfield 596xxxx from a guy at work.going through my data sheets i found some disscrepencys.first my hammer spring guide for that year shouldnt have wings and the trigger gaurd is machined.the trigger gaurd is without question not correct but the hammer spring guide is what bugs me.could this be correct for an arsenal rebuild.it was purchased through the cmp,but the owner may have swapped parts out before he sold it to me.

It is my understanding that many different parts were used on these late Garands. Because it is from the cmp means nothing as far as "correct" providence. I'll lay back and listen to the more knowledgeable chime in.

Did the seller tell you it was a Correct or Collector Grade?
If not anything goes as far as parts

As far as parts, anything goes on a Service Grade
WWII, Post War, parts and a mix of manufactures

If you want to make it correct as issued, change the parts

I would imagine that the change would have created one or two less machining steps and that the two parts still kept proper contact throughout function.
