Have a nice USGI Birch stock that was giving me fits trying to get the color to match with some walnut handguards
Think I finally got it close
Started with Feibings Dark Brown dye then MinWax Red Mahogany and many coats of BLO

Looks good. I love the mottling on the buttstock.
I've been using Ritt dye/Alcohol for staining Birch. Do you use the Minwax to seal the grain, or to provide extra color?

MinWax was applied after alochol dye just for color.
Dying CMP/Dupage/Boyds stocks is a complete differnt animal. The wood is much lighter and not near as dense. For them I would suggest a prestain conditioner first otherwise they will come out real blotchy

Bill, you have that set looking good. Feibings is good stuff, I have it in several colors. Depending on the weather I sometimes add a few drops of Japan Drier into the dye or last coat of liquid which is applied to the wood. Japan Drier aids drying time and prevents that sticky or tacky feeling the wood sometimes has. Any way you've done well on matching the three pieces.

Bill
You add Japan dryer to BLO??
Do you put some BLO in a container and add a few drops or rub the dryer in on top of the wet BLO??
Thanks
That's some nice looking wood..... !
