Only because it's in your boat that was probably in storage all winter I am going out on a limb and say its what’s left a graphite rod with some fire line thrown in for warmth.

Alright boys you are getting colder
A few years ago in the early spring me and a buddy was on Lake Erie not to far off shore. A storm blew up so we hightailed it back for safety. Barely made it to the marina ,there was a small bridge by the road so we tucked under there to wait it out.
The storm had alot of bad lightning ,rain and wind but was so fast moving it was probably through in 10-15 minutes.
We were just thinking about going back out and another boat comes into the marina at a high rate of speed. They were yelling something we couldnt understand. Here they had stayed out in the storm alittle to long. Lightning had hit the radio antenna, traveled down and jumped across to the fishing rod the guy was holding. They were dazed and couldnt hear and had cuts on his face from his fishing rod exploding. The carpet in the boat was charred and the picture is what is left of his fishing rod. If you look closely you can see the handle of the spinning rod sticking out on the right hand side. Rods are made out of strands of fiberglass or graphite etc and wound around a blank and impregnated with expoxy, etc. When lightening hit the rod just shattered back into strands of graphite
The squad came and took them to the hospital, I heard later they were OK
I have pushed my luck before fishing in storms but not anymore

Hey, I was right :) I promise I didn't look either. I had no inkling on the lightening part though. That's some incredible stuff there. Storms bad, sun good, when fishing.

Looked a little like someone's hair to me. Figured that it was no such thing though.

Spent time working in the desert in Arizona. Lighting storms would strike near our radio sites and actually burn up the gear even if it was turned off. What power!!
