This started as a FG Win-13 I got a few months ago. No other Win parts came on the rifle. Since I had ordered two, I figured I'd send this one off the Shuffs (it gobbled-up a bullet when inserted into the muzzle).
I ordered the T-37 FH from Fulton and had my buddy cut off an inch. Stock was a CMP Birch that I refinished.

Still need to get out and shoot it.

Thanks guys. I like her much better in nice, warm wood, but the synthetic is just more practical for her purpose in life. I can't stand just plain black. Nothing some Krylon Camo and painter's tape couldn't fix, though

It is. The balance was great, but she's back in wood now. For some reason, the ramline did horrible, horrible things to my Mini G's accuracy. I know a lot of people have good luck with 'em, but not me.

Good looking rifle Sir, I actually remember that one. That's one of the first Generation II Mini-G's. Notice the solid milled lower band which changes the barrel recipe by about 1/8". Total barrel length is the same but the works are moved closer to the muzzle.

I finally found a friend with a good camera. There are a lot of very pretty Mini-G's in this thread, but I have to say I'v quite pleased with mine. It's in .308 with a Ramline stock.

I took my Mini-G to the range today and shot a box of Federal "168 gr. Sierra Matchking BTHP". My first 3-round group at 100 yards was 7 1/2 - 9 1/2 high, so I dialed it down 7 clicks--as low as it would go; that was about right for most shots, though I'd still get moderately high groups. I shot six 3-round groups in total:

Group 1 - 7 in. (center target)
Group 2 - 5 in. (also center)
Group 3 - 4 in. (lower left)
Group 4 - 3 1/4 in. (lower right)
Group 5 - 5 1/4 in. (upper left)
Group 6 - 2 3/4 in. (upper right)

This is my first rifle with an aperature sight, and this was my first time shooting it. Lighting was adequate but not ideal, and generally I could only see the front sight and not the wings on the side as I aimed. I'd like to get someone with experience shooting Garands to shoot my Mini-G and see what their groups look like. Initially I wasn't too happy with my shooting (not that I'm a top shooter), but as I measured the groups and saw the steady improvement (with the exception of group 5, when I know I pulled on of my shots), I figure I may have a real shooter here once I figure out what I'm doing. I'd be interested in any informed opinions.

P.S. - I should add that this Mini-G caught the interest of several old-timers at the range. =)

Good question cuppednlocked. I probably only shot a total of 30-35 rounds since receiving my Mini-G, culminating in the 18 pictured above.

Just got my Mini-G back from Tim today.. It was a standard Mini-G that I sent back and had Tim install a Drop Down Gas Cylinder from Standard Parts and straighten the Oprod so I could install an Ultimak mount (without the need for Tim to mill the oprod and mount) and a Leupold FXII 2.5X scout scope on QRW Low rings. With this setup I get a good chin weld, the rear sight is visable in the bottom 1/3 of the FOV, but disappears when you focus on the target through the scope.

Range report will follow in a month or so after we thaw out a bit here in the northeast..

Yeah, that was a FAILED experiment. Plenty tacky for a "good" grip though! $vomit$

Jgun, the sight is the Aimpoint Comp. The bench is a nice piece of eastern red cedar, very similar to the blueberry juniper/hard rock cedar of central Texas.

jbkf1003, its a rare Bell & Carlson. The stock set didn't have the rear handguard so I had to experiment a bit before Tim fixed it for me. :D

If you are shooting high, that can be fixed even if your rear sight has been adjust all the way down. This rarely happens, just like on standard Garands, but it can be fixed. If you send me your rear aperture, I'm happy to modify it so that it can be lowered farther. It's simply a matter of girding down the bottom of it just about to the first gear tooth.

I really like the way the gun handles with the pistol grip stock, but this thing is HEAVY! It weighs in at 10 lbs as pictured. I've still got to fit the butt plate and stock ferrule, and finish it. Maybe the weight won't be an issue, but right now it feels like a cinder block to me.

I'll claim that compliment. The rifle is an SA 6 digit, 99*666. I bought it as a field grade, but it was really a SVC grade with junk wood. I replaced the bullet guide because it had a split cam, or spur, whichever you prefer. All the other parts were svc. grade or better which was really nice because that made for a better MiniG. All parts are WWII Springfield except the barrel, it is an HRA. It came with the rifle, it had well worn finish but the CMP hang tag read Muzzle 2, and bore 1. So I had Tim use it on the rifle. I rubbed in a lot of corrosionX into the park, I like the look it gives to it, and it takes away the dryness of the new park. Hope Tim doesn't mind.

The stock came out of my modest collection of HRA wood. I sold off my other nice HRA stocks to pay for the G. I have a wedding to help pay for, so I was able to get the rifle done without investing any new $$$. Only way to pull it off and keep breathing. That old walnut is really amazing in person, and it seems to change over time.

My only G left, the rest of my Garands are a standard HRA, EMCF SA, a BM14, and BM59's. This is my 35 Whelen G. It is a very good shooter (minute of heart at 300 yards) and is built from every poor part known to man. It has an old rusty sewer pipe barrel turned into a crystal clear and shiny barrel. It also has an Oprod with a hole in the bend, trigger guard with lugs I made and re soldered in, butt plate with no checkering, stock that was broken in half and I screwed and glued it back together, receiver has a broken toe on the right leg and I welded it and soldered it back on, oprod catch was missing the accelerator so it's now a holbrook type catch, gas cylinder had a dented in stacking swivel retainer hole so I ground it off for this rifle.

I went with an M14.CA RD mount. Retains a non-adjustable rear sight and the scope. Tried putting Cabela's new 3X Prism scope on it but it was just too high [couldnt get a decent cheek weld]. This did make me realize that there is a possible market for a lowered rear sight pictinny that sits just above the rear sight adjustment rod and behind the rear sight.

This is THE gun if you want a 30-06 for a 3 gun competition. :)
Why would you want that? Have you ever heard of something needing a double tap with a 30-06?

How do you like that Olongapo grab-n-go? I've been pondering a purchase of one.

Worth every penny. The 203 grenade vest is good but it has 24 pouches and you can only fit 22 clips. That was 18 bucks + shipping. The cartridge belt is good ... that was 29 bucks. The Olongapo Grab and Go was more expensive, but it works well too and is something you can drop in a pickup truck and no one thinks twice about.

My son and I went together on an HRA FG, sent off to Tim and just got it back. As you see, we also stuck with the plain Garand look. The stock is an arsenal repair, multiple rack numbers - just fits like an old pair of shoes. I love this little rifle, what a shooter! Great Work Tim, thanks!!!

As long as it locks up nice and tight, there's nothing that looks better, IMO.

I've completed the finishing work on Nigerian type stock that I bought after member Ax murderer was kind enough to post the lead on the stripped stocks in ths forum. Some have told me that it looks to hunting rifle pretty, and that I should have just used some dark stain to try to duplicate a military finish, but I thought that the brain was too nice to go that route. if you look closely you can see the knot hole that I had to fill on the butt stock. 147414751476

Thanks Mike, and thanks for posting the original Ebay listing. I think it came out pretty nice. Only thing I don't like about the PG stock is that it changes the angle of the trigger pull. I'm thinking of trying one of those trigger shoes. The grip is a US PALM grip for an AK. I think you coould probably use any AK grip but I happened to have this one. I did make a block out of aluminum that fills the square relief milled into the bottom of the wooden stock, and I made a little plastic filler for the gap between the front of the grip and the back of the trigger guard.
Centurion, the stock was listed on Ebay under Garand stocks. Just so you don't get the wrong impression, the bare stock (no butt plate or pad, and no front ferrule, was a pretty rough looking piece of wood, so if he lists another one, be prepared for a decent amount of work to finish it. On the up side, it was tight on the inletting, which allowed me enough material to get a tight fit and good lockup, without bedding it.

Here now, actually. Flew 130s for a few years. Was a T-6 IP at Vance for 3 and now at CBM since '13. If you were here from '04-'07, we were here at the same time. I was a student in Doolittle in class 07-01. I'd wager we know a lot of the same people.

I use my shortened T37 at an indoor range, and you could see it was doing little to suppress the flash. At one time, SEI was making a very effective 4-prong flash suppressor for the Garand. I have the same type of SEI 4-prong device on another firearm. It works real well, and the prongs are not easily bent like those on the T37.

Tim built mine prior to them being fashionable. It is stamped #75 on the barrel, I don't know what number he is now up to. It is built on a sub 3,000 4-digit SA Gas Trap receiver with lots of very early parts, including a slant op-rod, trigger group and bolt. It is fitted with National Match sights and a Turner National Match sling. As I fancy Gas Traps the only possible improvement would have been fitting it with a Gas Trap front end. Tim has worked on a handful of small projects for me and this rifle. In every case he exceeded my expectations in Spades and I would not even blink before using his services in the future.

Theres not anyway you can cut off the servo from their electronic and just add say a futaba servo connector? I dont have a mini t yet and none of the pictures really show much of the electronics so this is kinda a idea I pulled out. LOL

Mr axemurder--Really like the pistol grip on #2. What is it, and did you use a BM59 stock and take off the pistol grip?? I have a make-up M1 "tanker" that actually works--it would be a great candidate for your mod!

Just finished my build so I wanted to post a picture and thank Tim for his great work. Back in the 60's, when my dad had retired from active duty and began a new career as a sheriff's deputy, he got a call on a possible prowler. He drove to a woman's house out in the country, stomped around the bushes and didn't find anybody. As he was about to take off, the woman said "officer, one more thing - I want you to take this nasty thing with you! It was my late husband's and I don't want it!" She led my dad to the garage and there was a wreck of an M1 Garand. The husband had filed down much of the metal work - including the op rod handle for some reason - and thinned out the stock so much it cracked at the wrist. From my single digits through high school, the rifle sat as a rusty paperweight in the corner of our garage. I was always curious about it and would occasionally pull it out of its scabbard to check out and cycle. After I graduated from college, one of the first things I did with my newfound income was to mail order a $99 kit of Korean parts to rebuild it. I kept the 5-digit receiver and original trigger group, most everything else was replaced. A local gunsmith headspaced the barrel. It was a true Frankengun, part blued, part parkerized, with the ugliest GI stock I'd ever seen, but I loved shooting it and called it "my favorite plinker." Nothing like having those .30-06 shells flying over your shoulder. Nothing like ammo cans full of surplus M2 ball for $60 either! During lockdown I decided it was time I showed the Garand some more love, so I sent it to Tim for reparkerizing and the Mini-G treatment. Calico Hardwoods is in my home town, and after a few rejections around the country the good folks at Wenig Custom shaped a blank that I'd picked out from stacks of pallets. So here it is, reborn and ready for another 80 years of service -
