I was given an S&W revolver a few years back by a good friend of mine. It appears to be a "K" frame. Barrel length 5". On top of the barrel is the following: 1st line)

Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass. U.S.A. Pat'd Apr. 9. 89. Mar. 27. 04.

2nd line)

May. 21. 95. July. 16. 95. Aug. 4. 96. Dec. 22. 96. Oct. 4. 98. Oct. 8. 01. Dec. 17. 01.

S/N on bottom of butt: 58XX

On the crane and inside of frame where the crane closes against it :F 989

On the left side of the barrel is: + 32 Winchester Ctg +

On the right side of the frame is the typical S&W logo

The grips are checkered plastic with the S&W logo on the top rounded part of the panels.

The hammer and trigger are color case-hardened, the rest is (worn) blued steel.

Two questions: 1) what model is it (3rd hand ejector??) and, 2) where can I get another set of grips for it? The ones that are on it are broken on the bottom. I'd prefer an original set of grips but will take knock-offs if that's all that is available.

Thanks

Jon

If it is a K frame, the K frame grips will fit. I don't know where you can get original grips for it but SARCO and Numrich usually have after market grips that are a copy of the originals. One other thing if not a K frame it might be a J frame You need to match it up with a K frame for size. The J frame is the one you generally find as the five shot 38 snubbie or the .22/32 kit gun. Back to the grips the plastic ones will be almost impossible to find but the wood ones are still out there. Oh yeah ,it's a 32-20 cal.

I'd make you all hate me if I told you every firearm my friend has given me. This ain't no joke. He's in his 80's and his son has no interest in guns at all. He knows I'll appreciate them and take care of them. I've known him for almost 40 years. The first 2 guns he ever gave me were a 1st gen Colt SAA and a '73 Winchester. Then 3 Merwin &Hulberts. Another '73. Let's see..............too many to list but there is a broom handle Mauser and an 1898 Springfield in the mix. I'm as serious as a heart attack. I couldn't make this stuff up. Nice friend INDEED. And yes Mike, 32 Winchester Ctg is the original designation for the 32-20. By the way, it is a Hand Ejector 1902 2nd Model k frame round butt. Now we all know.
