Bill,
If I remember correctly that rear NM sight assembly goes north of a C-Note. The hooded apertures are about $35-$40 by themselves.

An NM/2 is indicative of a 1962 version. The /2 indicates that the base is undercut to allow the hooded aperature to lower fully. A standard base or a 1960/61 "NM" base will have hood contact when the sight is cranked all the way down. The NM/2A base was late M1 and M14 usage.

The NM/2 stamp on the side of the ear appears to be "sloppy" compared to what I am used to seeing. Is the hood marked with the peep diameter (either .595 or .520)?

I say it's a bit odd.

I was told by the "experts" :) that the base was fake.
Very well could be as I know nothing about them
Only have $35 in everything so really doesnt matter one way or the other.
I'm gonna use the sight

This one is a 1963 papered type2, an SA 5.95 mil
Fulton Armory has been selling repro NM sights for years, not sure what the markings look like. I think they are made by Smith Enterprise?

The splines are flattened like Dave's 1963-papered photos and the "595" is read from the muzzle end of the rifle.

Both of my hoods have sharp splines and the "595" is read from the butt.

One of my mine is on a rifle that Fulton built up as a match rifle in 1991. The origin of the other is unknown.

Sorry to bring a thread back from the dead, but thought it might do well for comparison.

Are the sight hoods pictured in this add repro, because of the sharp splines and "595" is read from the butt (not the muzzle)?

Just curious, also looks like a more modern blue washer and bright copper lock ring.
