We have some big votes coming up in MI this year. There is a huge attempt at a union power grab for a couple of the resolutions being voted on. Our Michigan Constitution is up for grabs, get ready.

Proposal 1: A REFERENDUM ON PUBLIC ACT 4 OF 2011 – THE EMERGENCY MANAGER LAW
Public Act 4 of 2011 would:

• Establish criteria to assess the financial condition of local government units,
including school districts.
• Authorize Governor to appoint an emergency manager (EM) upon state finding
of a financial emergency, and allow the EM to act in place of local government
officials.
• Require EM to develop financial and operating plans, which may include
modification or termination of contracts, reorganization of government, and
determination of expenditures, services, and use of assets until the emergency is
resolved.
• Alternatively, authorize state-appointed review team to enter into a local
government approved consent decree.

Should this law be approved? (Yes or No)
Proposal 2: A PROPOSAL TO AMEND THE STATE CONSTITUTION REGARDING COLLECTIVE BARGAINING
This proposal would:
• Grant public and private employees the constitutional right to organize and bargain collectively through labor unions.
• Invalidate existing or future state or local laws that limit the ability to join unions and bargain collectively, and to negotiate and enforce collective bargaining agreements, including employees’ financial support of their labor unions. Laws may be enacted to prohibit public employees from striking.
• Override state laws that regulate hours and conditions of employment to the extent that those laws conflict with collective bargaining agreements.
• Define “employer” as a person or entity employing one or more employees.
Should this proposal be approved? (Yes or No)
Proposal 3: A PROPOSAL TO AMEND THE STATE CONSTITUTION TO ESTABLISH A STANDARD FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY
This proposal would:

• Require electric utilities to provide at least 25% of their annual retail sales of
electricity from renewable energy sources, which are wind, solar, biomass, and
hydropower, by 2025.
• Limit to not more than 1% per year electric utility rate increases charged to
consumers only to achieve compliance with the renewable energy standard.

• Allow annual extensions of the deadline to meet the 25% standard in order to
prevent rate increases over the 1% limit.
• Require the legislature to enact additional laws to encourage the use of Michigan
made equipment and employment of Michigan residents.

Should this proposal be approved? (Yes or No)
Proposal 4: A PROPOSAL TO AMEND THE STATE CONSTITUTION TO ESTABLISH THE MICHIGAN QUALITY HOME CARE COUNCIL AND PROVIDE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING FOR IN-HOME CARE WORKERS
This proposal would:

• Allow in-home care workers to bargain collectively with the Michigan Quality
Home Care Council (MQHCC). Continue the current exclusive representative of
in-home care workers until modified in accordance with labor laws.

• Require MQHCC to provide training for in-home care workers, create a registry
of workers who pass background checks, and provide financial services to
patients to manage the cost of in-home care.
• Preserve patients’ rights to hire in-home care workers who are not referred from the MQHCC registry who are bargaining unit members.

• Authorize the MQHCC to set minimum compensation standards and terms and
conditions of employment.

Should this proposal be approved? (Yes or No)
Proposal 5: A PROPOSAL TO AMEND THE STATE CONSTITUTION TO LIMIT THE ENACTMENT OF NEW TAXES BY STATE GOVERNMENT
This proposal would:
Require a 2/3 majority vote of the State House and the State Senate, or a statewide vote
of the people at a November election, in order for the State of Michigan to impose new or
additional taxes on taxpayers or expand the base of taxation or increasing the rate of
taxation.
This section shall in no way be construed to limit or modify tax limitations otherwise
created in this Constitution.
Should this proposal be approved? (Yes or No)
Proposal 6: A PROPOSAL TO AMEND THE STATE CONSTITUTION REGARDING CONSTRUCTION OF INTERNATIONAL BRIDGES AND TUNNELS
This proposal would:

• Require the approval of a majority of voters at a statewide election and in each
municipality where “new international bridges or tunnels for motor vehicles” are to be located before the State of Michigan may expend state funds or resources for acquiring land, designing, soliciting bids for, constructing, financing, or promoting new international bridges or tunnels.

• Create a definition of “new international bridges or tunnels for motor vehicles” that means, “any bridge or tunnel which is not open to the public and serving traffic as of January 1, 2012.”

Should this proposal be approved? (Yes or No)

Prop 3 - It would be interesting if passed. 25% renewable energy mandate with a cap on recoverying the costs but extensions will be given to meet the mandate would be made. You will not see the 25% limit reached in your lifetime. It is cost prohibited. As to laws being enacted to encourage the use of Michigan made products, this will most likely run afoul of the federal commerce clause.

Prop 4 - So the caregivers would go on strike and to hell with patient care.

Prop 1 - Hello, I'm from the government and I'm here to help you.

Prop 5 - Sounds good to me but it needs to be tied to a state debt limit. Limiting taxes should lead to reduced spending, not increased debt.

Prop 2 - I am not a fan of unions, particularly public unions.

Prop 6 - I think this would make Mi. the only state that has verbage relating to bridge construction in their constitution. What is this all about?

Rehrifle, you summed it all up pretty well. Prop 6 is a tricky one, it's all about the state government trying to do a private bridge take over between detroit and Windsor. I'm tempted to vote yes on it but I need to get more data. Prop 5 also appears good on the surface but again, more data. The rest can all go to hell, a recipe for more of my being forced to make union contributions to democrats. The unions in this state are a complete disgrace.

And to take it a step further, I offer to you Proposal 7.25:

From this day forth the Upper Peninsula of Michigan shall no longer be associated in any way, shape or form with the community of trolls that live below the Mackinac Bridge (except in the process of business dealings that involve firearm procurement). Let the trolls keep their grubby hands off of our tax money and personal freedoms, for we can drive on ridiculously pot-holed roads without the help of the mighty gloved ones, and we have enough morality police in our midst for the midwest as a whole.

From this day forth, the U.P. shall be referred to as "DoAsYouLikeIstan". Smoking is allowed in bars and open carry is strongly encouraged.

While I agree with you, mostly, let's not forget the HUGE sucking sound going to the UP. The second (maybe first) highest per capita welfare rate in the state. To be "doasyoulikeistan", requires getting off the dole.

Fine with me man. I have no problem with letting the section 8 zombies fend for themselves... statewide.

EDIT: I did some digging to find the welfare distribution rate for Michigan. I couldn't find it, but did find this interesting article that, in my opinion, disproves your claim of the U.P. being "The second (maybe first) highest per capita welfare rate in the state". It appears to me that the urban centers easily rank first, followed by the northern lower peninsula counties.

I believe I can faintly hear that sucking sound you speak of... and it ain't coming from up here. ;)

Well, I can't back my claims or yours sir. What I'm looking for is the study on Dependency Ratios by Michigan County. There was a time that I had found a study on this and now I can't find the data to back up what I put in print. The Dependency Ratio is far different then just food welfare, it takes into account food, medical, home heating credits, earned income tax credits, every single thing that sucks the marrow from the taxpayer is accounted for.

Interestingly, I did find a report by the Michigan human services (welfare) called "101 of welfare" and it made our proud and noble welfare recipients sound like true assets to the community. Heck, when I was done reading it, they were just as much a hero as any other government employee. I'm going to have to go out and find me a welfare recipient tomorrow and thank them for the fine work they're doing for me. These dead beats are made out to be a regular economic boon.

Yes it is and I voted two weeks ago. I still can't believe these BS amendments were up for vote.
