Been thinking and talking about doing a 16A1 retro build for several years, funny how when you get closer to the ride being over how you want to reconnect with a rifle that at one time 1970-72 you were sick of,, receiver showed up at my FFL yesterday i put it all together today, turned out nice, ive got many AR15s just wanted the 16A1

That looks great! What would be the proper sling for it, black nylon?
It looks great. Now you have me interested in building one.

No actually it is a light nylon green sling just like the garand sling,,ive got one coming from a guy on the cmp forum, they went to the black silent sling about 1980

We had the black silent slings in 1976 at fort bliss, and 76-79 at Fort Ord.

I've got the version Century put out - looks just like the one I carried in Basic Training in 1982 and for my first couple of years in the 82nd Abn.
