So I'm putting to gether a Garand for a friend. Everything is going normal until I try to latch the triggerguard down, it just won't go. I'm working with a new Boyds sotck and a trigger guard that has some healthy lug on it. I've never had one this tight before. What do you guys do in this situation, get an old worn out trigger guard?

#1 grease the lugs
#2 stop being a whiney pansey and close the darn thing :)
They can be very hard to close, the last thing I would do is remove any wood at the trigger assembly area. If you do in time the wood is gonna compress the fit is going to be loose
You can use a gaurd with flat lugs until wood compresses enough to install the other guard
Heres what I do, run the aperture all the way down, flip rifle over on the carpet or a padded table. Man up and close the latch or you can use a rubber mallet and smack her closed
This is totally normal fit for Boyds stock

Look at the 8th picture and description , do you have this small gap under the receiver? If not remove some wood, this will also help the guard close easier

What Orlando said LOL. I don't like to "go for it" if the trigger guard has that positive locking feeling when it's only about 3/4" or more from closing. In that case, I sand.

Well.. not a fan of the BFH, in this situation anyway and not a fan of sanding. Looks like I am going to swap out the trigger guard.

Thanks!

For what it's worth fitting my new stock I also took the rubber mallet to it. she closed up just fine with a little encouragement
